New Car Care Tips

New Car Care Tips

Driving off the lot in a new car brings a feeling of accomplishment most only experience a few times in their lives. That’s why it’s important to make sure your new car stays in tip-top shape as long as possible. Here at Veterans Ford, we have some new car care tips to help you keep your vehicle in pristine condition for as long as possible!

  1. Read – While it isn’t anyone’s favorite way to spend an afternoon, reading your owner’s manual is the best way to learn everything about your car. From the specifications to the recommended maintenance schedule, everything is in there. Do yourself a favor and mark that maintenance schedule so you don’t have to find it later.
  2. Maintain – Keeping up with regularly scheduled maintenance is the most important part of taking care of your car. While the most common item is likely oil changes, check your manufacturer-recommended maintenance schedule to see what else needs done. Make an appointment with the dealership’s service department ahead of time!
  3. Drive – While it’s nearly impossible to destroy a modern-day new car simply by driving, take it easy on the gas. A new engine often sheds some metal during the first few hundred miles and its more than likely those shavings will end up in the oil. Remember to get an oil change according to the manufacturer’s recommendation!

How to Have a Perfect Beach Day

Perfect Beach Day

We may be a bit biased, but we think Tampa, Florida has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Now that summer is here, the local beaches will become more and more crowded. If you have some sun bathing in your future, here is what you need to do to have the perfect beach day.

  • Choose the right day. Since vacation season is here, weekends at the beach might be more crowded than you might like. Choose a weekday for fewer tourists and a better piece of sand.
  • Choose the right beach. Don’t visit the most popular beach in the area or you won’t find a place to sit. Find one that is more out of the way and you’ll have a much calmer, more enjoyable experience.
  • Bring some food. While many beaches may offer on-site concessions or nearby restaurants, it is nice to be able to eat right there on the sand without giving up your prime spot and it will save you some money. A simple picnic lunch with sandwiches, fresh fruit, and lots of water is the perfect way to fill you up. The smaller your cooler, the easier it will be for you to maneuver.
  • Pack a bag. When heading to the beach, there are a few things you don’t want to forget: sunscreen, extra towels, sunscreen, reading materials, sunscreen, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, oh, and an extra bottle of sunscreen.
  • Go light on the gear. While you might be tempted to bring a sun umbrella, beach chairs, snorkel gear, buckets and shovels, body boards, and all the beach toys you own, keep in mind, that the more you bring, the more you are likely to lose.

Follow these simple steps and you’ll be well on your way to enjoyable the perfect day on the white sandy shores of Tampa.

Benefits of leasing

Benefits of Leasing

If you’re in the market for a new car, you may have given a few thoughts to leasing. At Veterans Ford, we think there are great reasons to either buy or lease. In this article, we’ll cover the benefits of leasing and why it might be something you want to do.

Lower Down & Monthly Payments

When you lease a car, you only pay for the value the car loses over the length of the contract. Though that amount varies depending on the car, leasing can often mean getting a brand new car for three years at only half the price of buying it. You can use this to drive your monthly payments way down or avoid spending a lot of money up front.

Lower Repair Costs

Vehicle warranties often last the whole duration of a lease contract, so if you run into any mechanical trouble, you’ll probably be covered. Because the car is new, it’s also less likely to need repair. For the most part, leasing a car is just a matter of coming in for scheduled maintenance and leaving all your other worries behind.

No Hassle

Leasing makes it easy to drive a new car every two or three years. Just bring the car back to the dealership when the term is up and drive home with a new one. Unlike with a car you own, you don’t have to deal with depreciation, finding a seller, or trade-in hassles.

Ford Makes New Low-Profile Police Lights

2016 Ford Police Intercepter

Ford continues to help improve police cars, this time by making their lights stealthier. The latest technology will allow cop cars to follow people without being noticed as easily.

This technology is the new interior visor lighting. The lighting will be installed on the popular Police Interceptor Utility vehicle. Already fairly stealthy, the lights will make it even less noticeable.

At first glance, the public reaction may be one of “oh no!” but the reasoning behind the change in lights is not to trick the public. The normal lights are simply bulky and take up a decent amount of room in the interior of the car.

Ford police marketing manager Stephen Tyler stated that “interior vision light bars are somewhat bulky and con obstruct the field of vision – especially for taller officers.” The new lights are low-profile and are placed where the top of the windshield connects to the headliner. This will dramatically improve driver visibility.

Existing Police Interceptor vehicles can still be outfitted with the new low-profile police lights. Ford can put in the new lights and then will put in a clear glass instead of the dark shade at the top of the windshield. This will allow the lights to shine through more effectively.

Ford’s Mobile Movie Theaters

Ford Autonomous Vehicle Entertainment System

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a great time for companies to announce their big plans. This year’s was no difference, as Ford proudly explained that it is tripling the amount of its autonomous vehicle testing.

One reason for doing this is that the Ford Motor Company is already thinking of the next step, beyond simple autonomous driving. There is a vision for vehicles to become mobile movie theaters.

There is a patent for this technology, which details screens and projectors that vanish into the ceiling when the driver needs to take over the wheel. The patent is being referred to as an “Autonomous Vehicle Entertainment System.”

The car will have two modes: autonomous, where the movie is displayed on a projection screen covering the windshield; and non-autonomous, where the screen and projector retract and the movie is then displayed on a smaller integrated screen on the dashboard area.

Although Ford is definitely thinking beyond the immediate future, CEO Mark Fields does make it clear that the “priority is in making the first Ford autonomous vehicle accessible to the masses and truly enhancing customer’s lives.”
